Admissions Policy regarding AP and IB Coursework
In line with our commitment to personalized academic pathways for students, ABC offers course exemptions for foundational courses, based on prior completion of Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework.
-
1 – Purpose of the Policy
This policy ensures that students with demonstrated academic achievement through standardized and internationally recognized programs are not required to repeat content they have already mastered. It also helps students’ progress more efficiently towards their degree while maintaining the integrity and learning outcomes of the ABC curriculum.
-
2 – Eligible Programs
Students may apply for foundational course exemptions if they have completed:
- AP courses, officially recognized and authorized by the College Board (CB)
- IB higher-level (HL) courses, officially recognized and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)
- Other national or high school-level honors or advanced courses are not eligible for exemption under this policy unless they are part of a formal AP or IB curriculum.
-
3 – Criteria for AP & IB Course Exemptions
- Students who have successfully passed an AP course (offered by a CB-authorized high school) or an IB HL course (offered by an IBO-authorized high school) may request an exemption from the corresponding foundational course at ABC.
- ABC will verify course legitimacy by checking the CB’s and the IBO’s list of authorized high schools around the world.
- Courses labeled as “AP/IB equivalent,” “AP/IB-style,” or otherwise modeled on AP/IB content but not officially CB- or IBO-authorized will not be considered for exemption.
-
4 – Applicable Courses for Exemption & Credit Transfer
This policy only applies to foundational-level courses at ABC. Core-business or upper-level major courses are not eligible for exemption through this policy. Three credits may be awarded for each AP course (passed with a grade of 3 or above) or IB HL course (passed with a grade of 4 or above), not exceeding 18 credits.
-
5 – Documentation Requirements
To request an exemption, students must submit the following:
- An official high school transcript indicating completion of the relevant AP or IB course.
- If requested, proof of the school’s CB or IBO authorization.
- Additional documentation (e.g. course syllabi) may be requested for the review process.
-
6 – Assessment & Approval Process
Each exemption request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Academic Department or the student’s designated program advisor. Decisions are based on course content alignment, academic rigor, and documentation provided. The decision of the Academic Department is final and will be communicated to the student prior to the start of the academic semester.
-
7 – Additional Notes & Limitations
This policy does not apply to transfer students from other universities. Such cases are handled under ABC’s Transfer Credit Policy. ABC reserves the right to revise this policy at any time to align with academic standards or institutional priorities.
