Advanced Placement / International Baccalaureate Higher Level Courses
American Business College (ABC) offers students the opportunity to bypass certain foundational courses if they have successfully completed official Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level (HL) courses from recognized institutions. This policy enables students to advance in their studies without retaking material they have already mastered.
Eligibility Criteria:
- A score of 3 or higher on AP exams.
- A score of 4 or higher on IB HL exams.
- Exemptions are applicable only to entry-level courses, with a maximum of 18 US credits (3 credits per course).
Important Notes:
- Courses must be from College Board or IBO-authorized institutions; unofficial or “AP/IB-style” classes are not accepted.
- Students must submit official transcripts and, if requested, proof of school authorization or additional documentation.
- Each request for credit transfer will be evaluated individually, and the decisions made are final.
- This option is not available to transfer students coming from other universities.
Transfer Credit for University-Level Courses
Undergraduate students transferring from other universities may receive credit for previously completed coursework. Credits will be awarded based on the compatibility of the issuing institution’s courses with ABC’s academic standards, and they will be converted into the U.S. semester credit system.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Courses must align with the program’s academic roadmap, as determined by the Academics Department.
- Only courses with a grade of “C” or higher from internationally recognized institutions are eligible for transfer.
- If the previous institution lacks formal accreditation, transfer credit is subject to approval by the Academics Department.
Restrictions:
- Repeated courses, online courses, incomplete or withdrawn courses, and ESL or remedial-level courses are not transferable.
Process for Transfer Credit:
- Transfer credit is awarded only upon receipt of an official transcript from the previous institution, which must be submitted during the admissions process.
- Credits will not be awarded for transcripts submitted after the student has been accepted.
- If a course is in progress during the admissions process, it can be considered for transfer credit once final grades are released and an updated official transcript is provided.
Consultation: Some programs do not accept any transfer credits. Students are encouraged to consult their Academic Advisor for specific details regarding their program’s transfer credit policies.
