Food distribution initiative at ABC Paris
On March 1st, ABC Paris (ex ABS Paris) students from Psych 110, along with their professor, Gaelle Chabalier Loughhead, participated in a volunteering experience with Serve the City Paris.
Their mission: to distribute warm food and drinks to those in need while putting classroom theory into practice.
A new experience
On a cold Saturday morning, the group met with Leo, an Italian student who had been volunteering with Serve the City Paris for over a year and who will serve as their “guide” during the distribution.
Professor Loughhead, who had spent the past week preparing for this outing along with her students, shared her vision for the experience: “Beyond the main objective of helping those in need and brightening their day, this initiative was designed to articulate a field trip with an introduction to psychology—engaging students in a meaningful way that drives change. I also wanted to encourage them to build connections and even make new friends.”
After sharing a warm breakfast at Impact Café, the team set off to distribute food and drinks throughout Paris. While applying their studies to real-life situations, they also had the opportunity to listen to people’s stories, exchange thoughts, and share moments of laughter. One beneficiary even expressed how simply having a warm drink with the students gave him the strength to open up about his day.
